We are the proud owners of an oboe!

Today we bought an oboe for Tori. We found it on Craig's list (thanks to Andy who turned us on to it when we bought our canoe). It was a one owner, and she has had it for about 30 years! She also started playing the oboe when she was 10 like Tori. Tori wanted to meet her, so it was nice to buy from someone local. I told Tori that if she wanted to go in that she needed to be prepared with a question to ask the lady. She asked her "why did you choose the oboe to play?". I thought that was a great question! The lady said that she chose the oboe because when she was 10 it was the shiniest instrument! She said she really learned to like the oboe because you got to do special solos a lot, and get extra attention, Tori liked the sounds of that! She continued to play until she was an adult and didn't take the time anymore, and it has been sitting in a closet since. The lady's father was a band director, so it is a good oboe, and is a conservatory model, and can be used all the way through. Tori is very excited! And so am I! We got it for a very fair price, but it needs some work, and it is in the shop right now. All together with repairs it is much cheaper than buying the model the school would offer, and it is a MUCH better oboe, and worth a lot more. Even if Tori decides not to play in a couple of years, we can re-sell the oboe for what we have into it, or just a little less.

*thanks Stacy for the advice....I talked to Tori about all of that...she was determined to play the oboe, and said she already knew it was the hardest instrument!
